2018

December

Meet Carol, our Yogi of the Month. She’s strong and grounded yet kind and caring!!

We asked her a few questions. Here’s what she had to say:

When & Why started practising yoga?

“Shortly after my second pregnancy, I experienced shoulder and back pain that made it difficult to even pick up my daughters. Reluctant to take medications and thinking “this will go away”; which it wouldn’t, I decided to try ‘this yoga thing’ that I was hearing about.
So I purchased a video and began practising yoga. From those short yoga sessions, I was able to alleviate the discomfort I was experiencing and eventually eliminate the pain. I became more aware of what my body was dealing with, the triggers, the issues, and ultimately the benefits yoga provided me. Ever since yoga has been a regular part of my life.”

What does yoga mean to you?

“Initially yoga was a means to address physical pains and discomforts. Eventually yoga evolved to also become a means to escape. It allows me to acknowledge how I am feeling, what I am thinking, what is going on in my life, and to just process it.”

What is your favourite thing about VivaLaLemon yoga?

“There are so many things about VivaLaLemon that I love, like the diversity of the classes, the exploration of intent and the stories Nicole shares. But my favourite is the sense of community Nicole creates with VivaLaLemon yoga. It is more than just a class, there are elements in the classes that brings everyone together, builds on the energy created and I love being a part of it. It has renewed and heightened my interest in yoga.”

What is your favourite pose or part about yoga?

“I love yoga poses that involve strength and concentration, and the one that has remained my favourite is the tree pose. The tree pose requires so much of my focus that it immediately clears my mind. It is during that pose that I become fully present for I have yet to succeed on holding that pose while thinking of something else!”

How has yoga affected life off the mat?

“I never realized the affect yoga had on my life until I experienced a career change that reduced the time I spent outdoors. I came to realize the mental benefits I was receiving from the outdoors, being physically active with little distraction. Yoga has the same affect. I am removed from distractions and just allow my thoughts to flow while being active, which allows for making decisions and facing challenges less overwhelming.”

Words of wisdom, for fellow yogis or for someone new to the practice:

“To someone new to the practice; just enjoy it. Make it your own and just go with it!

November

Meet Carolyn, my Momma!! One of my biggest fan’s, she has been in my corner from the very beginning.  Not only does she support me as a mother but as a friend and fellow yogi.

We asked a few questions and here’s what she had to say:

When and why did you start practicing yoga?

“Approximately two years ago I was introduced to yoga! A beautiful young lady, not in the form of a daughter, but in the form of a friend ,she took my hand and my heart in hers, and said come let me Show you how to love yourself and forgive yourself and together we can grow.”

What does yoga mean to you?

“I guess if I could use one word it would be peace. Peace in my mind, I can quiet my mind no more judgement ,no more questions in intentions, seeing things as they are. Peace in my heart, giving the freedom to love and to be loved. peace in my body doing the poses ,stretching my muscles ,and doing the final Savasana, giving my body peace.”

What is your favourite thing about VivaLaLemon yoga?

“My favourite thing about Viva La lemon yoga is the teacher, the calming in her voice ,the instruction to get into the poses is very clear.”

What is your favourite pose or part about yoga and why?

“My favourite part about yoga is the meditation, meditation clears my mind and allows me to move my body in ways that I normaly couldn’t do ,allowing the time on my mat to be calming productive and peaceful all at the same time.”

How has Yoga affected life off the mat?

“Life off the mat has changed dramatically. I have learned how to leave the past in the past. I can now live in the present, I can appreciate what I have! As a daughter, a sister, a mother, wife, a grandmother and a friend, all of these relationships have become easier; more for feeling, living life to its fullest , and knowing what is real and what’s important to me.”

Words of wisdom for fellow yogis or for someone who’s new to the practice:

“When I first started yoga, I remember saying to myself I can’t do this. I’m too big. I can’t forget or I can’t forgive. I can’t. Then I was taught how to journal I learned how to forgive myself. I learned how to forget the past through lots of tears and lots of self discovery. Through time spent on my mat I am learning to love the person I am. For me this is yoga”
